I am not all about hospice information and reflection. With my retirement, accumulation of birthdays, and random moments (or hours) of procrastination, I don’t write as regularly or as intensely as I once did. And yet, I still want to craft sentences. Trying to inspire or irk a few readers is a compelling activity.

Books

Here’s a “companion” for a daily journey during Lent (or whenever you seek to deepen, question, or renew your Christian faith. Using phrases from the Lord’s Prayer, each reflection invites the reader to see the Holy at work in the world. Patten has been mentored by Barbara Brown Taylor, Lauren Winner, and Nora Gallagher. Theologian John Cobb has said, “Larry Patten has envisaged a format that should appeal to the busy reader. Each short chapter stands on its own, with its own message. It can function as a devotional moment. Yet the sequence of chapters develops a cumulative meaning. The writing is good and the stories are well told.”A United Methodist pastor, Larry Patten has served churches, been a campus minister, and worked as a hospice chaplain.

A Companion for the Journey: 41 Reflections (mostly) on the Lord's Prayer

Another Companion for the Journey: 40 Reflections (and Questions)

Here’s another “companion” with 40 unique reflections on faith. The book’s brief chapters can be read randomly or in order, alone or with a group, during any time of the year or as a Lenten resource. It’s for Christians on a journey to strengthen their relationship with God and neighbors, open to pondering questions about faith and enjoy discovering the Holy in the simple moments of daily life.
